Over many years video games have changed.  Consumers once relied on high street retailers, packed from floor to ceiling with physical boxes.  Disks, cartridges, or tape held an entire gaming experience.  Changes, improvements, and new content came about if a game was lucky enough to produce a sequel.  The pervasiveness of modern communication technology has changed the nature of gaming today.  Studios sell downloadable content, implement patches, and expand stories after a user has bought a game.

Salt is all about a life on the open seas. Set in a randomly generated archipelago, you must find a way off the starting island you’re marooned on and go in search of the resources you need to survive out in the wild. Most of us will have experienced the all too common “Wilderness Survival” genre in some form or another, but it’s the setting of Salt that got me interested in playing the game. With such a heavy focus on the ocean and the desolate scattering of land available, I thought I’d mix things up a bit and record my own diary of experiences in the form of a captains log.

Slap some wheels onto the chassis of a metal frame, apply momentum when necessary, and before you know it you’ve got yourself a winning formula. And yet here we are, staring into the abyssal void of contradiction that is Roundabout; a game that takes your preconceived notions of driving and repeatedly runs them over like yesterday’s road kill.
