The folks in the town of Prosperity never did seek out adventure much.  They had more pressing things to worry about than fighting the good fight.  From the desert storms that swept through Dry Top devouring everything in their path to the quicksand just waiting to snare unwitting victims, the population of Prosperity already had plenty to worry about.  Nothing grew in the arid sands of Dry Top before the tendrils sprouted, then came the monsters.
